Subletting Laws in Iowa

In Iowa, you may sublet your unit as long as your lease doesn't prohibit it. As is true with all sublets, you will remain responsible for the terms of the lease for the duration of the sublet. Landlord tenant law in the state says that the tenant retains the right to sublet or assign unless the rental agreement expressly prohibits the exercise of this right.

Even if your lease does prohibit subletting you can attempt to get approval from your landlord.
